Vox Populii Vox Dei
During the times of Imperial China, the emperor rule with a notion that his throne his authority is derived from mandate from the heavens. The mandate is believed to continue to be in force if the emperor and his successors able to rule the country well, and continue it will until the occurrence of an event showing revocation of such divine mandate.
The Divine does not descent from the high heavens telling the emperor to his face that he’d screwed up and need to abdicate, but it is the ascension of the people’s voice that mark the ending of dynasties and regimes. This occurred to many countries, ours included.
The not too recent 2008 election result clearly shows waning of such mandate through the dissenting voice of Malaysians that was somehow effectively channelled through the polls. The people’s voice convey the message that the ruling government is in a dire need to shape up and make reforms unless they are prepared to be swept away by the so called political tsunami.
Few days after the election result was announced, I wrote a post entitled ‘Perjuangan yang perlu diselesaikan’. At that time, I a Umno member by membership and by heritage, in my heart there still linger hope that the PM will come to his senses due to the ‘defeat’ and in turn make reforms that is yearned by the Rakyat for so long.
Now I have to say that that hope is slowly shattering as the time goes by due to the current situation where I am unable to see any worth-noting reform done.
So far there is a lot of pressure building within Umno itself where some rare, brave and courageous members are trying to remedy the party illness. Only one cure that they do have in mind for this ailment and that would be the abdication of the PM.
With Umno in disarray all its adversaries are now homing in. I believe the opposition is now discreetly making the move to pounce at their now injured and limping prey for the kill. To avoid this untimely end for Umno all that it needs now is a strong selfless leader. From within Umno, a leader must rise up to the challenge, a leader who is selfless and willing to place the Rakyat’s, the nation’s and the party’s interest in front of his own. If only the party can accommodate such a rarity of a selfless leader.
Perhaps events which are unfolding these days will act as a catalyst that will cause the passing of the old guard thus simultaneously usher a new cadre of able statesmen ready to sacrifice all but the interest of the Rakyat for Malaysia. The Rakyat has spoken.
“Let not these brave souls be harmed, Let not they be silenced, Let not the draconian laws be imposed upon them, Instead let their voices be heard by all, Vox Populii Vox Dei.”
