Of Kings and Respect
A monarchy conducted with infinite wisdom and infinite benevolence is the most perfect of all possible governments – Ezra Stiles

In the midst of political turmoil in Perak, a lot of rude and harsh remarks are hurled against the Sultan of Perak. His highness’s decision in appointing the new BN-led state government is openly criticized as being unconstitutional, against the rule of law and natural justice albeit the fact that his highness the Sultan of Perak was once the chief justice of this country.
Ironically, these entire ruckuses are made by those same people who once hail support of the sultans, who wore yellow scarves and headbands, shouting ‘daulat tuanku’ on the streets to portray themselves as true royalists. Now it seems that the table has turned. Those once royalist are now the ones who show ‘the finger’ to the monarchy. Too sudden a change of respect and allegiance, I suppose.
Clearly all the support once was given by these people are done insincerely with obvious ulterior motives.
The other half of the rakyat have voiced against these ‘derhaka’ behavior. But it is sad to see that other sultans, with the exception of the Sultan of Selangor, have not said anything over this issue. As usual the comment made by the Sultan of Selangor is straight to the point and bold as it condemns all the idiotic and immature acts done over the Perak issue.
Daulat Tuanku.
UPDATE:
It seems that the issue in Perak is far (emphasis added) from over. The ‘suspension’ made by the state assembly speaker has cause the issue to further deteriorate.
But let say that the suspension is valid and in accordance with the house rules… If the old PR government still considers itself as the legitimate government, wouldn’t the suspension effective on them instead? So, who are suspended? The bigger question is who will administer the state of Perak during the suspension period?

Salam to you Saudara,
It’s been a while since either of us have made a posting on our blog.
Your post is timely and addresses the issue of allegience, as it were, to our monarchy.
I find it funny that support by, especially the Pakatan people, towards the rulers are ad flip-flop as the government they criticize.
Not too long ago, sometime towards the end of last year, Sdr. Anwar Ibrahim made a pledge of sorts to return the unlimited power of the monarchy.
This coming from a man who supported the ammendments t limit the rulers’ immunity back in 1993.
Then, fast forward 15 years to 2008, the man then says otherwise.
It was quite hillarious to see Anwar’s pro-unilimited-royal-immunity statement be shot down with facts and his own previous statements by Dr.M.
Today his supporters who, as you have accurately described, adorning yellow attire screaming daulat tuanku, are the one’s who have made an abrubt 180 degrees in allegiance by giving the monarchy the “finger”.
Reason why I focus on debunking Anwar is that he is their leader. He is himself a flip-flop.
It is only expected that his die hard (sampai sanggup baring di tengah jalan) followers and supporters be as flip-flop as their so-called fearless leader (who’s now so conveniently quiet).
Not only is Malaysian politics not yet matured, but the quality of supporters (like the one’s yang baring atas jalanraya) leave much to be desired in terms of mentality of our voters.
Malaysia has a very, very, very, very, loooong way to go before these jokers even undertstand themeaning of constitutional monarchy, let alone understand the constitution.
Salam,
MELAYU LAMA
Salam saudara ML,
True… no updates a long time for both of us.
This country’s so-called politicians are getting worst as the day goes by. Their idiocy seems to grow exponentially in these recent days. Kemaruk kuasa agaknya… kemaruk to a point uses own supporters to do stupid things, baring tengah jalan, baling batu pada raja etc. Plainly stupid.
Thanks for your comment.
Well, Malaysian politics still immature and i could not see whether we can be rational and see the different perspectives within the ambit we allowed.
Still, i see home ‘hikmah’ here where we know what is good and bad for this beloved country. Hope all of us especially politicians know about their responsibilities even i seems so pessimistic of what had happen currently.
We need to re-think again as how we built this country for long period and it can be destroy within one day if we’re ungrateful and forget the history.
Think Think Think…of course with rational judgment
peace!
Dear Chip,
To accommodate politicians who are both mature and rational are such a rarity nowadays.
Personally i’m bit dissapointed of what had happen in Perak even though it provides some precedent and varied our constitutional issues in future. Well i do think that next generation will question us on what had happen today and it’s very interesting to note that we’re as person who see the situation clearly need to explain of what had happen to this future generation.
To certain extend we can say that law is not everything. Somehow rather it gives some indication that we tried to sort our everything based on law without thinking of other dispute settlements. We forget how to negotiate, abide by rulers and doing something for sake of society regardless of any political ideology. That’s i heard of ‘Now it’s not politics but economy STUPID!’
